Frozen embryo transfer at The Evewell
A frozen embryo transfer, or FET, is a cycle in which a previously frozen embryo is thawed for transfer. Developments in freezing techniques and the vitrification of embryos have significantly increased embryo survival and pregnancy rates, making this a very successful treatment for those patients with previously frozen embryos.

Whereas other clinics have a standard day in every cycle for transfer, our consultants may suggest additional tests to ensure your hormone levels are where they should be.

Your treatment journey doesn’t have to have started at The Evewell, we’re happy to help transport any frozen embryos from another clinic for you to undergo your frozen embryo transfer with us.
We don’t want you to have to go through extensive unnecessary tests or treatment, so if you have medical notes or test results from previous treatments or clinics, we’re happy to use these providing they are within the required timeframe.

Your treatment journey begins with a consultation to discuss the outcome of your cycle, options for further tests and when you would ideally like to have your embryo transfer.
We focus on the details in order to design an individualised treatment plan to deliver the best possible results for you.

If your periods are regular, your consultant may suggest having the embryo transferred in time with your natural ovulation cycle.
In this case, ultrasound scans will be used to check the lining of the uterus, and urine or blood tests will be used to check when you are ovulating, which indicates when the lining of the womb is ready to receive the embryo.

If your periods aren’t regular, or you don’t have them at all, your consultant may suggest using drugs to artificially create an optimum transfer environment.
We’ll closely monitor both your hormone levels and uterine lining thickness to determine the best time for transfer.

On the day of the embryo transfer, the embryo is removed from storage, thawed and closely monitored by our embryologists.
You’ll be asked to attend the clinic and will be made as comfortable as possible for the procedure, which is usually over in half an hour.

We understand that an embryo transfer can be the most emotional stage of the IVF process.
Approximately two weeks following the embryo transfer, it will be time to do your pregnancy test. A follow-up appointment with your doctor will ensure you are fully supported following your test result and will provide an opportunity to discuss any steps from there.
